Bank holiday weekend
Econ was commissioned to demolish and clear a concrete footbridge spanning a four lane highway. Timing was critical to ensure that disruption to traffic and local residents was kept to a minimum. Working ‘round the clock’ over a four day weekend period the Econ team successfully demolished and disposed of a large concrete structure in a controlled, efficient and safe operation. A carefully planned convoy approach ensured that all waste material was removed and recycled in the most environmentally friendly way possible.
Careful and detailed planning was essential and the works were overseen and coordinated by one of our highly experienced project managers. Key staff included demolition technicians, and a team of waste removal and recycling operatives. By using our own material recycling facilities and pre-selected and vetted sites we were able to clear a large quantity of waste arising from the demolition over the four day period.

Our Client is extremely pleased at the way we, supported by Econ, have dealt with the situation. From the moment you confirmed that notifiable asbestos was present, a focused, concerted effort has been made by Econ to deal with the problem. The client was impressed at the speed in which Econ tabled a strategic proposal to the HSE to remove the asbestos, working 24/7 non-stop, to expedite the removal. The fact that the proposal, including approval by the HSE, was achieved in such a short timescale is credit to Econ. The proactive approach, while being flexible and accommodating to allow key ECR staff to work in a safe, isolated contained area, has really impressed the Network Rail team.
