Summary

Econ were instructed to remove sectional pipe insulation containing asbestos from a toilet block at Railway Station. The works were undertaken over a weekend period. All works were undertaken in fully controlled conditions as the material was licensable. The works were carried out in a full enclosure placed under negative pressure.

We pre-arranged for an ARCA audit to be undertaken on site (as part of our continuing site monitoring regime). This passed with no major or minor non conformities.

1 site supervisor and 3 asbestos operatives. Econ’s team included staff who met the following requirements: Full Category C Asbestos training, CSCS Cards, PASMA and First Aid Training.

Equipment/Plant Used

Negative pressure unit (2300), Wet Strip Injection Unit, Twin Shower Decontamination Unit, 16 Yard Asbestos Skip.

Our Client is extremely pleased at the way we, supported by Econ, have dealt with the situation. From the moment you confirmed that notifiable asbestos was present, a focused, concerted effort has been made by Econ to deal with the problem. The client was impressed at the speed in which Econ tabled a strategic proposal to the HSE to remove the asbestos, working 24/7 non-stop, to expedite the removal. The fact that the proposal, including approval by the HSE, was achieved in such a short timescale is credit to Econ. The proactive approach, while being flexible and accommodating to allow key ECR staff to work in a safe, isolated contained area, has really impressed the Network Rail team.
