Railway bridge demolition; waste and environmental management; concrete cutting and sawing
52 hour window of full access. Project completed after 27 hours
Econ was called in to demolish the Holland Lane East road bridge, which passes over the railway tracks on the Oxted to Edenbridge line. Because of the need to minimise disruption to train services Econ were allowed a 52 hour window of access to the rail and road site and immediate surroundings. Using a powerful mix of robotic excavators and traditional demolition excavators Econ were able to apply concentrated machine and manpower to complete the operation within the tight deadline. Concrete cutters and track saws were also employed along with a telescopic crane to remove materials quickly and safely for transportation to recycling plants.
Military precision and planning was required to ensure that all works were handled safely and speedily to minimise disruption to rail services and the immediate areas surrounding the bridge. Staff employed on the project included: Network Rail PTS Sentinel; PTS CCDO; PTS CPCS.
500t mobile crane; concrete cutting equipment including wire, track and hand saws; remote controlled Brokk excavators; 13 tonne and 5tonne excavators.
